The Moonlit Earth

Christopher Rice

Christopher Rice

There is more confidence and maturity in Mr. Rice's writing with each new book. The Moonlit Earth does not disappoint in that regard. It is a fast paced thriller built around news and topical events.

Nurse Jackie S2

Nurse Jackie

Edie Falco is, simply put, one of the best actors of our times. Nurse Jackie continues to draw you in, make you feel and make you laugh.

The writing on Nurse Jackie is damn good too. Jackie's admonishment of the drinking mother; Zoey's interaction with God or the nephew of God; Dr. Ohara's fabulous forays into fashion and foible.

Elena Undone

When Night Is Falling

Elena Undone begs comparison with Patricia Rozema's When Night Is Falling which is much better and features a circus.

The Pastors' wives, Pascale Bussieres in When Night Is Falling and Necar Zadegan in Elena Undone, are both exceedingly beautiful and married.

In a Strange Room

I completely understand why Damon Galgut's novel was Booker Prize nominated, but my psyche couldn't take that much sorrow and loneliness.

The book is divided into 3 parts: 1. The Stranger, 2. The Lover, 3. The Guardian. After reading The Stranger, I was looking forward to The Lover, but it was as lonely a read as I've ever experienced. I attempted to go on to The Guardian, but the schizophrenic blues were just too much for me.

Puccini for Beginners (2006)

I should have included Puccini for Beginners in my Best of Decade list earlier this year. It is one of the best representatives of English language lesbian films of the decade. Drifting Flowers would be my choice for Foreign Language lesbian film for the decade.

Women in Trouble (2009)

A very amusing movie with smart writing, good acting and a point of view. 4 stars
