It's never a "free speech" issue. It's usually a "these are the consequences of your freedom to speak" issue.

Pariah (Short)

Pariah by Dee Rees

Dee Rees completed Pariah in 2007 at NYU.  It is a film so fine and so rare that there are few comparisons.  Sally Heckel's A Jury of Her Peers is the only other short film that comes close to the precision artistry.  Pariah is the whole package: script, acting, cinematography, soundtrack and even the credits are finely drawn and beautifully presented. Just when I think that queer film has tanked into the stew of mediocrity that blankets all else, a film like Pariah revives my hope. Thank you TheReelCharlie for gifting me with this great film. The full length extended film was at Sundance 2011 and picked up for distribution by Focus Features.
