Mary Ann in Autumn

Armistead Maupin

Comfort food and gourmet comfort food at that. Once again Maupin creates a world both familiar and larger than life with simple phrasing and brilliant compilation.

Because his characters rely on the past exposed in previous novels, it could be tedious to review all that has gone before, except Maupin does it seamlessly by profound reflections on past actions and soul searching exploration of the past. As usual, Mrs. Madrigal has the enlighted and consumate say in these matters with her buddha like wisdom.

I love that the dog Roman became a character too. I loved the parallels between Jake and Mary Ann. In all, an enjoyable, nutrious treat.
