The Moonlit Earth

Christopher Rice

There is more confidence and maturity in Mr. Rice's writing with each new book. The Moonlit Earth does not disappoint in that regard. It is a fast paced thriller built around news and topical events.

In a Strange Room

I completely understand why Damon Galgut's novel was Booker Prize nominated, but my psyche couldn't take that much sorrow and loneliness.

The book is divided into 3 parts: 1. The Stranger, 2. The Lover, 3. The Guardian. After reading The Stranger, I was looking forward to The Lover, but it was as lonely a read as I've ever experienced. I attempted to go on to The Guardian, but the schizophrenic blues were just too much for me.

Beautiful People

I’m sure this book has received one too many comparisons to Running With Scissors, so I’ll leave that alone.

Simon Doonan’s memoir is witty, fey and downright depressing. He paints a dreary English landscape in contrast to the glitzy lives of the beautiful people, one of whom he longs to be. Now that the BBC has aired a new series based on this book, methinks he has arrived.

Sister Souljah's The Coldest Winter

The copy I checked out of the library was labeled YA. The sexual content is X.

I thought about myself at 13 years old, a voracious reader. I would have been thrilled. Finally, the real deal, unashamed. Had a moment of pleasure imagining a young reader discovering this book.

All Families Are Psychotic

Strangely sweet and uplifting, but mostly crazy... crazy enough to be real.

Douglas Coupland is a masterful writer. His descriptions of Florida filled me with sardonic hilarity. I will definitely visit his other works. (little LGBTQ content, peripheral character only)
